I'll just post the important bits:
>Variety has interviewed an employee at Comedy Central, the likes of which is working on the upcoming Daria spinoff, Jodie. They asked if they could reveal anything about the Jodie spinoff, and apparently, it's not even happening anymore, but rather, a Daria reboot; an ACTUAL, tried and true Daria reboot, currently titled "Daria and Jane"The employee had this to say: >"Basically, almost two months ago, we made a 7-minute pilot for Jodie, and reception by our focus group was rather mixed, much to our surprise. We tried not to be too hip and trendy, cause we know that wouldn't go well, but it still didn't work. One person then said that Daria would've been able to mock the Gen-Z culture better. We showed the pilot to as many people as we could, and they essentially agreed with that opinion. So, some of us talked it over, and now the Daria spinoff with Jodie is gonna be a true Daria reboot. >Daria and Jane has currently been picked up for two seasons. They plan on getting as many members of the original show as possible, they primarily are trying to get four certain people on board: the two co-creators, Glenn Eichler and Susie Lewis Lynn, and Daria and Jane's voice actors, Tracy Grandstaff and Wendy Hoopes.https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/jodie-spinoff-becomes-true-daria-reboot-1235026398/
>>124705289 >we made a 7-minute pilot for Jodie,
Great, a new piece of lost media to hunt for.
OP, the url doesnt work. doesnt matter since it was covered by LA times alreadyhttps://www.latlmes.com/breaking/daria-and-jane-1
What is the point of making these fake article threads?
Implying even if it were true it would be anything less then recycled late night show humor. It's gonna be shit no matter what form the reboot takes.
and jane would get a really ugly redesign
Good, but I still think a remake/reboot is a bad a idea. Daria is a product of its time.
>>124705289 >muh focus groups
Always wrong except for that one beavis and butthead focus group
I mean I wouldn’t watch it either way, but hope you enjoy it.
unfortunetly a lot of similar properties have the same issue. i love beavis and butthead but them making fun of 90s bands and music videos is better than them having anything to do with the current music industry. would probably get sued into the ground for mentioning kanye.
I'll get the trio back together. It's pizza time.
Yeah, those sorts of shows are really rooted in the whole Gen X "slacker generation" culture. You really don't have teenagers listlessly wandering around looking for something to do or watching music videos because that's the only cool thing on TV, and a lot of the banalities that Daria dealt with aren't especially prevalent anymore either. That's not to say you couldn't make shows with similar vibes lampooning Gen Z, but I really don't think Daria or Beavis and Butthead are the right characters for them. It's why the Beavis and Butthead revival failed to resonate even though, in my opinion, there really wasn't any appreciable dip in quality. I even think that plays into why The Simpsons has been so lame.
B&B revival only lasted a season because MTV's entire demographic changed to teenage girls who have no interest in watching a show like that.
was it a coincidence?
>>124706467 >It's why the Beavis and Butthead revival failed to resonate even though, in my opinion, there really wasn't any appreciable dip in quality.
i actually loved it. the change to ragging on MTV shows like cribs was pretty funny. but just like
said the demographic has changed too much. maybe adult swim could of given it more seasons but whos to say the quality would have stuck around in that scenario
No one ever clicks on them. Its a good cover.
Jodiechads, when will these salty dariafags and janetards give up?
>>124705289 >daria reboot >not a continuation of daria in her late 30s/early 40s
they're gonna fuck it upthey're gonna fuck it upthey're gonna fuck it upthey're gonna fuck it upthey're gonna fuck it upthey're gonna fuck it up
Everyone is obsessed with reboots but they always end up being shit without fail.
Goths don't exist anymore. They would make her a typical modern hipster chick, complete with pastel colored hair dye.
Do hipsters even really exist anymore?Just seems like it stopped showing up as a identifiable attitude in like, 2015.Like it was just too much effort so it just dissolved.
I agree, for men, hipsters just turned into basedboy neckbeards. Hipster women went from like a lighter granola hippie stereotype to more of a darker punk look. You see those women with pastel dyed hair and "spiritual but not religious" attitude everywhere.
HIPSTERS ARE SO MAINSTREAM
Place your bets on who is going to get THE cut
Don't be a retard and feed off his bait.
Shouldn’t Mike Judge get co-creator credit? Daria debuted on Beavis & Butt-Head.
I never understood the decision in the first place. Jodie was such a non character that I doubt there was anyone who wanted to see more of her. She was just that straight faces background person that made the occasional comment and then vanishes. Her whole point was to be normal to offset Brittnay's stupidity.
Who the fuck is Jodie?
It just doesn't work in the modern era. In the 90s being a dumb slacker was the cool thing with teens and was a funny trope. Or being the rebellious person that defied all levels of authority just to be rebellious and counterculture, but also a nihilist that hated all causes. That's not the cool thing any longer and it just doesn't work with modern viewers. No one wants to be the dumb lazy slacker that listens to music all day. No one likes the asshole that just makes fun of things as a past time. And just about everyone hates the cynical asshole that refuses to join a cause and thinks everyone is stupid for trying. Those are considered loser tropes that people want to avoid or not be today.
I still think it's amazing how Daria managed to totally avoid the asshole antagonist Cheerleader/Football star thing through the whole series.Kevin and Brittnay were the friendliest people in the whole school that constantly invited Daria to their parties.
Would be fun if Daria was the overworked mother of a woke teen that wants to jump in on every single cause and protest imaginable while it clashes with Daria's totally 90s cynicism and she just doesn't understand the youth.
>>124709344 > Brittany and Kevin both get kicked off their teams and become social pariahs > Brittany uses her wholesome tard logic to justify staying together
They have a reputation for cheating on each other but I always felt the show was a little ambiguous in terms of how far they went. Kevin was totally oblivious to Quinn, after all.
It was only one episode each, and Kevin got back on the team. Thing is, it was a time when anytime you had a cheerleader or quarterback as a side character, they had to be the mean ones that picked on the main characters. But Kevin and Brittnay never once did that to Daria and Jane.If anything it was Daria that constantly treated them like shit for no reason.
The only time I can even think of where Brittany was intentionally unpleasant to Daria is the science project episode where she was afraid Daria was going to try to steal Kevin. Kevin himself seemed to genuinely like Daria.
thisshe was too heckin mean spirited, unwholesome and edgygosh I hate her!
>it's another "/co/ falls for a fake article" threadretardest board on the site
They received a pretty nice dose of reality when they realize that Andrea (the goth girl) was avoiding them at not-Costco because she was afraid that they'd make fun of her for working there. Aside from Sandi, Daria and Jane are the only ones with an explicit reputation for being judgmental.
Please just let some things stay in the past, they're fine as they are.Any modern update of Daria is just going to miss the point of the show completely in favor of modern identity politics and probably make Daria and Jane another pair of super activist Lesbians
>>124709641 >Kevin himself seemed to genuinely like Daria.
He literally tried to date her in the original pilot
Subcultures as a whole kinda collapsed around the early 2010's. There's no 'hipsters' anymore. There's pretty much nothing anymore, really. Everything's one big all encompassing sludge.
>>124705289 >source 404'd
Don't fuck with me on this.
Jane without dot eyes and actual sclera is pretty unnerving.
Why the fuck was Jodie gonna get a spinoff anyway? She was such a nothing character. But I guess it makes sense since Daria was a nothing character in Beavis and Butt-Head.
Good news is good. Seriously Jodie's entire character is being a bootlicker, she would not provide any useful insights.I hope they can get the original actors, since as I recall many of them were literal nobodies who never acted again. Also it's been decades.. but they were a major part of what made it gud.i mean let's be real it's gonna suck no matter what. it's gonna be gay gay gay just nonstop gay, daria's going to kiss liberal ass and never offend anyone with criticism. but if I can at least hear those characters talk a little, I might.. naw I'll never watch it, too painful. Couldn't get through 10 seconds of new Animaniacs.STILL this is a step in the right direction. Like when they redid the art in that Sonic movie.
she was never a goth, she was kind of an emo scene chick with a healthy dose of punk artist.
god damn anon that would rock
his relationship with Daria has always been kind of nebulous.. sometimes he wants credit, sometimes he doesn't want association with it.. it's obvious the show was written with his overall style in mind..
it made you a loser back then too, did you not watch the show? she was a loser. and we're still hated today. While all the normies run themselves ragged 'keeping up' we're just staying the shit out of it and having no friends.
>>124713582 >and never offend anyone with criticism
She'll be savagely critical of anything right wing, but will conveniently ignore left wing insanity.
Jane with a purple cartoon asian streak in her hair.
You're the modern version of hippies that turned into republicans.
Way more goth than emo/scene. Punk artist for sure though.
